Episode 47: Bharatanāṭya Sādhana- A Philosophical journey- Final Part of a Dialogue with Sri Shankar Kandasamy, World Renowned Bharatanāṭya Artiste and Head of the Bharatanāṭya Faculty, Temple of Fine Arts, Malaysia.

In this episode, the dialogue explores a wide range of significant questions concerning Bharatanāṭya as a #Lasyanga -based tradition, when the repertoire offers a greater abundance of literary material for the expression of the #nayika , what has been the nature of #maledancers and #nayaka participation and what are its limitations, challenges, expectations and appropriate modes of practice? What is the journey from #kama to śṛṅgāra? What are the possibilities of invoking #bhakti for the purpose of sādhanā, and what is the transformative power of #devotion in dance? How can #Angikabhinaya itself become a path of sādhanā? What challenges arise along this path and how may they be overcome? The dialogue also reflects upon the changes that have taken place in the structure and sequence of the Bharatanāṭya performance; the cultivation of #sattvikābhinaya , experiential depth, spiritual insight and sustained practice; and the ways in which the goals of dance transform through bahir and antaraṅga sādhanā. What is the value of śraddhā and attentive observation in artistic practice? Where does the inspiration for choreography arise, how should develop? What is the true responsibility of a dance artiste? How can artistic freedom be harmonised with tradition? How can the powers of imagination, spirituality and manodharma be expanded in artiste? What do #Nṛtyayoga , Nṛtyavrata, Bliss and Nṛtyadhyāna truly signify? Can dance itself become a means of dharmasādhanā? If so, how can this be understood in simple terms?
